Ivan J. Houston is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley. He entered the University in 1942, left to serve in the army from 1943 until 1945, and returned to receive his B.S. degree in 1948. From 1970 to 1990, he served as the chief executive officer of the Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company, one of the nation’s largest African American businesses, and named one of the 100 Most Influential Black Americans by Ebony magazine.
